Clash of the Titans

As some of you know I am working on a prequel to The Awakened. The premise is inspired primarily by the sixth chapter of Genesis and the book of Enoch, in which a group of angels take up residence on earth, drawn by the beauty of human women. They intermarry with human-kind, producing a race of giants and other abominations as their offspring. Whether the event actually happened, or was misinterpreted from some less-fantastical happening, is controversial among Christian circles. Supporters of the former view contest that this actual event is what inspired the mythology of various cultures (Greek, Norse, Hindu, etc.).

So when I saw the preview for the remake of Clash of the Titans, I was pretty excited. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by the full-length movie. Though entertaining, it could have been so much…more. It seemed as though the film-makers started with the idea that such events can’t actually happen. While this is a healthy perspective for every-day living, it isn’t a good place for a storyteller to start.

The end results were mediocre special effects, poor storyline pacing, and characters I wasn’t able to connect with. It was still fun to watch, but I had higher hopes for the film than just a few hours of entertainment.

Oh well. I’ll just have to do a good job of writing my prequel so the story can be told the way I see it in my mind.
