The following is a glossary of characters, terms, and locations mentioned throughout this and subsequent books of the Awakened series.
The vowels section below contains characters, or arrangements of characters, which are used in the pronunciation section of glossary entries. Each vowel sound is followed by an example of common words using the same sound.
The additional consonants section also contains characters, or arrangements of characters, which are used in the pronunciation section of glossary entries. These sounds are not used in the English language, but examples are found in other languages and are listed for reference.
Glossary entries contain the word or phrase, its correct pronunciation (including syllables and emphasis) if needed, and a description. The format for each entry is as follows:

Aaron Stafford \air-in staf-erd\ Head of Null’s linguistics group.
Adair Lorus \uh-dair lohr-uhs\ Colonel and Governor of Bastul. Husband of Maeryn. Father of Kael and Aelia.
Aelia Gallus \ey-lee-uh gal-uhs\ Daughter of Adair and Maeryn Lorus. Sibling of Kael Lorus. Wife of Dacien Gallus. Mother of Suline Gallus.
Alan Chisholm \al-an chiz-ohm\ Deputy director of Null’s Scandinavia and Eastern Europe office.
Ampur \ahm-pewr\ A city in the Southern Territory of the Orudan Empire, located west of Leoran.
Andrea Bosque \ahn-drey-uh bosk\ Tim Matthews’ replacement as Senior Analyst in the Intelligence group at Null’s South and Central Americas office.
Area 51 “Area 51 (also known as Dreamland, or Groom Lake) is a remote detachment of Edwards Air Force Base. It is located in the southern portion of Nevada in the western United States, 83 miles (133 km) north-northwest of Las Vegas. Situated at its center, on the southern shore of Groom Lake, is a large military airfield. The base’s current primary purpose is officially undetermined; however, based on historical evidence, it most likely supports development and testing of experimental aircraft and weapons systems.[1][2] Despite the obscurity of the facility, the base has become well known, in large part because of various conspiracy theories involving it and its frequent portrayal in popular culture.” Area 51 (2013, May 8). Armaros \ahr mahr-ohs\ One of the mystical beings Saba names after the defeat of the All Powerful.
Assistant Team Leader (ATL) A member of one of Null’s Tactical Teams, responsible for the Team’s training, medical care, and long-range defensive weaponry.
Bahari \bah-hahr-ee\ Former criminal, who became an informant for Adair after being caught. Later became captain of a merchant ship.
base of operations The facility or area used to coordinate a military operation. Due to the personnel, equipment, and intelligence resources needed, this will typically be one of Null’s regional offices.
Bastul \ba-stewl\ Southern-most city in the Orudan Empire, located at the tip of the Southern Territory. Referred to by many as the “Southern Jewel” for its glittering beauty in the way that its waters reflect both sunrises and sunsets.
Blue Team In simulated confrontations used for training and indentification of defense weaknesses, one or more Blue Teams have the role of defenders.
Borderlands In the Eternal realm, the portion of the creation spectrum just before the Temporal realm.
C4 A moldable plastic explosive.
Central Operations Division (COD) A division of Null, headquartered in Haslingden, United Kingdom, responsible for operations in Europe and Africa.
Chris Durand \kris der-and\ Zylski’s replacement as COMM Operator on TAC 1.
Ciarán Hayes \keer-ahn heyz\ Head of Field Operations for Null’s Scandinavia and Eastern Europe office.
COMM The communications system used for Null’s field operations. Also an abbreviation for communications.
COMM Operator (Communications Operator) A member of one of Null’s Tactical Teams, responsible for relaying the Team’s movements to Command.
COMM Surveillance (Communications Surveillance) A department within each of Null’s Divisions, responsible for monitoring enemy communications for intelligence data.
Command A title used during a field operation to designate the base of operations and communications hub. Also used to refer to Null’s global headquarters.
Command Room The central area, typically a single room, where both Field Operations and Intelligence groups coordinate activities for an operation.
Containment A department within each of Null’s Divisions, responsible for removing evidence of Null’s existence.
control center The operation designator given to Armaros’ communications and electrical control center located inside his compound in Brazil.
Dacien Gallus \dey-see-en gal-uhs\ General of the Southern Territory of the Orudan Empire. Friend of Kael. Wife of Aelia. Father of Suline.
Darren Jensen \dair-en jen-suhn\ The second security officer (S-2) on TAC 1.
Daud \doud\ The leader of Armaros’ team of personal guards.
Deputy director The highest position of authority within one of Null’s regional offices.
Devon Greer \de-vuhn greer\ Team Leader (TL) of TAC 1.
Eric Thompson \air-ik tomp-suhn\ Assistant Team Leader (ATL) of TAC 1.
Eternal realm The portion of the creation spectrum that is eternal, in contrast to the portion that is temporal.
EX Abbreviation for execution. The third phase of a field operation that involves carrying-out direct action on the objective.
EXFIL Abbreviation for exfiltration. The fourth phase of a field operation that involves moving from the objective location to an extraction point.
EXTRACT Abbreviation for extraction. The fifth phase of a field operation that involves removing a Tactical Team from the field. Also used as a designator for an extraction vehicle.
Extraction Rally Point (ERP) The location where a Tactical Team regroups prior to extraction.
Field Operations (Field Ops) A department within each of Null’s regional offices, responsible for planning and conducting field operations.
FRA (Facial Recognition Analysis) The software program used by Armaros’ intelligence department to identify individuals based on key facial features.
Fracturing The event in creation’s history where the Temporal realm was fractured into three identical worlds.

Gretchen Engel \grech-in eyn-gl\ One of the Intelligence analysts working under Tim Matthews at Null’s South and Central Americas office.
Head of Field Operations A position of authority at each of Null’s regional offices responsible for Tactical Teams and coordination of field operations.
Head of Intelligence A position of authority at each Null’s regional offices responsible for collecting and analyzing intelligence data.
Heads-Up Display (HUD) A display of graphical and/or alphanumeric data, presented in a semi-transparent format, overlayed against a user’s vision or viewport such that the user does not have to look elsewhere for critical information.
High Council The highest authority in the Orudan Empire, consisting of the Emperor/Empress, the Generals of the Territories, and the leaders of the Guilds.
Holy One The Creator; Commander-In-Chief of the Amatru.
Ian Petran \ee-in pe-tran\ Head of Intelligence for Null’s Scandinavia and Eastern Europe office.
In-Between A place that is separate from the Eternal and Temporal realms, and the laws that govern them.
INFIL Abbreviation for infiltration. The second phase of a field operation that involves moving from the insertion point to the objective.
INSERT Abbreviation for insertion. The first phase of a field operation that involves delivering a Tactical Team to the field.
INTEL Abbreviation for intelligence. A piece of valuable data or information about a subject or enemy. Also used to refer to an Intelligence group at on of Null’s regional offices.
Intelligence A department within one of Null’s regional offices responsible for collecting and analyzing intelligence data.
IRP (Insertion Rally Point) The location where a Tactical Team regroups after insertion.
Jack \jak\ One of Aaron Stafford’s linguistic technicians.
Jackson \jak-suhn\ One of Tim Matthews’ analysts in the Intelligence group at Null’s South and Central Americas office.
Jim Helmsley \jim helm-zlee\ Director of Null’s Western Operations Division.
John \jahn\ The behavior psychologist assigned by Command to monitor Kael’s training.
John Martinez \jahn mahr-tee-nez\ The first security officer (S-1) on TAC 1.
Josh Ellis \jahsh el-is\ Team Leader for TAC 2.
Kael Lorus \keyl lohr-uhs\ Son of Adair and Maeryn. Sibling of Aelia. Uncle of Suline.
Kaliel \kuh-leel\ An ancient and mysterious religious organization serving the demon god Rameel and seeking to reclaim the earth for his ownership.
Key One of the ten items crafted by the the Myndar Ezekiyel, which allows a being to move from one Temporal world to another through the portal.
Klick \klik\ In military terminology, a klick is equal to a distance of 1,000 meters.
Kokabiel \koh-kuh-bee-el\ One of the mystical beings Saba names after the defeat of the All Powerful.
Korgan \kohrg-en\ The barbaric peoples of the uncharted territory northeast of the Northern Wall. Also called Korgs.
Lemus \lee-muhs\ Colonel and Governor of Bastul, appointed as Adair’s replacement after the former Governor’s disappearance.
Leoran \ley-ohr-uhn\ Capital city of the Southern Territory of the Orudan Empire, located southwest of Orud.
Low Ready A downward-angled position of a held firearm which allows an unobstructed view to the front, and keeps the weapon readily available for use on short notice.
Maeryn Lorus \mair-en lohr-uhs\ Former Governess of Bastul. Wife of Adair. Mother of Kael and Aelia. Grandmother of Suline. First Empress of the Orudan Empire.
Magnus Calidon \mag-nuhs kal-i-don\ Former General of the Northern Territory of the Orudan Empire who later became Emperor. Leader of the Resistance. High Priest of the Kaliel.
Manius \ma-nahy-uhs\ One of the Guild Leaders on the High Council.
Mark Zylski \mahrk zil-skee\ COMM Operator for TAC 1.
Marotru \mah–roh-trew\ The combined military forces in the Eternal realm who rebelled against the Holy One. The unholy, demonic military.
MED Team Abbreviation for medical team. Two or more medical specialists dispatched into the field.
Monastery The place where Kael was raised and trained in the arts of war. An island facility owned and operated by the Kaliel.
M-SPEC Abbreviation for multi-spectral imaging system. The imaging system used by all of Null’s Intelligence groups for analysis of electromagnetic radiation data.
Myndarym \min-dahr-im\ The plural name of the angelic race entrusted with Reshaping the Temporal realm after its separation from the Eternal realm.
night vision device (NVD) A vision apparatus which amplifies ambient light to allow visibility during nighttime or in locations of darkness.
Nijambu \ni-jam-bew\ An ancient and primitive trade port, far to the south and beyond the reach of the Orudan Empire. One of the last functional pieces of infrastructure of a civilization that began its decline before the Orudan Empire was founded.
Nikolaus Almstedt \nik-oh-luhs ahlm-stet\ Team Leader for Bravo Team, a Tactical Team at Null’s Scandinavia and Eastern Europe office. Temporarily designated as TAC 3 during the assault on the medical complex in Helsinki.
Northern Ocean The ocean north of the Orudan Empire.
Null A secret organization, formerly the Global Conspiracies Division of the CIA, formed to investigate and combat global conspiracy through the employment of intelligence and paramilitary operations.
Objective Data Composition (ODC) A compilation of graphical and alphanumeric data, displayed in a Command Room during a Null field operation. Typically centered around the operational objective, the ODC displays terrain and atmospheric data as well as Team movements.
ORP (Objective Rally Point) The location where a Tactical Team regroups after infiltration to the objective.
Orud \oh-rewd\ Capital city of the Orudan Empire.
Orudan \oh-rew-dan\ The people of the Empire of Orud.
portal The device with allows passage between the three worlds of the Temporal realm.
portal building The operation designator given to Armaros’ building housing the portal, located inside his compound in Brazil.
Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) A pursuit tactic used by law enforcement whereby a pursuing vehicle can immobilize a fleeing vehicle by impacting its rear side, causing the fleeing vehicle to spin out after its rear tires loose traction
Railgun An experimental projectile weapon that uses electrical current to generate a magnetic field as the propellant force.
Rameel \rah-mey-el\ The All Powerful. One of the mystical beings Saba names after the defeat of the Kaliel.
Red Team In simulated confrontations used for training and indentification of defense weaknesses, one or more Red Teams have the role of aggressors.
Reshaping A period in creation’s history when the Myndarym reshaped the Temporal realm to ensure its self-sufficiency after being separated from the Eternal realm.
Resistance An underground social movement which opposed the Orudan Empire’s use of slave labor.
Rhiannon Marshall \ree-a-nuhn mahr-shuhl\ Director of Null’s Central Operations Division.
Rolando \roh-lahn-doh\ Head Chef of the cafeteria at Null’s South and Central Americas office.
Rurik \rer-ik\ One of the snipers on Bravo Team, a Tactical Team at Null’s Scandinavia and Eastern Europe office. Temporarily designated as TAC 3 during the assault on the medical complex in Helsinki.
Ryan Collins \rahy-an kahl-inz\ One member of the two-man transport team assigned to move Adair from Null’s Western Operations Division in McLean, Virginia, to its South and Central Americas office in Bogotá, Colombia.
Saba \sah-bah\ Kael’s childhood mentor. Friend of the Lorus family. Also known as Sariel.
SAT Abbreviation for satellite.
Satarel \sah-tah-rel\ One of the mystical beings Saba names after the defeat of the All Powerful.
Science and Technolgies Division (STD) A department of Null’s global headquarters, responsible for developing all of Null’s equipment and weapons.
Sean Collins \shahn kahl-inz\ One member of the two-man transport team assigned to move Adair from Null’s Western Operations Division in McLean, Virginia, to its South and Central Americas office in Bogotá, Colombia.
Security A defense-oriented team of soldiers within a Null Field Operations group, whose purpose is to create or maintain a secure area.
Security Officer Two of the five members of a Null Tactical Team, responsible for observation and medium-range, heavy defense weaponry.
Senior Analyst The senior member of a Null Intelligence group, responsible for collecting and analyzing intelligence data. The Senior Analyst reports directly to the Head of Intelligence.
Sergio Peña \ser-jee-oh peyn-yah\ Team Leader for TAC 5.
Shaping The ability of a Myndar to change its form, or the form of another being or object.

TAC Abbreviation for tactical team. One of Null’s five-member paramilitary units, assigned to the Field Operations group of a regional office.
Team Leader (TL) The lead member of a Null Tactical Team, responsible for long-range, precision fire weaponry, directing Team movements, and making “on-field” decisions to achieve mission objectives.
TEC (Tactical Exercise Command) The team of personnel responsible for coordinating and facilitating field training exercises.
TECH Team Abbreviation for technical team. Two or more information technology specialists dispatched into the field.
Temple Also called the High Temple. The place where Kael first met the All Powerful. A secret facility built inside an inactive volcano off the western coast of Bastul, serving as the main headquarters for the Kaliel. In Kael’s home world, the Temple houses the portal.
Temporal realm The portion of the creation spectrum that is temporal, in contrast to the portion that is eternal.
The Awakened The subject of an ancient prophecy regarding angels who abandoned their home to inhabit earth. The Awakened is thought to be a human warrior who will ultimately destroy the angels.
The Prophecy Refers to the prophecy of the Awakened. See also The Awakened.
The Wall Also called the Northern Wall. A physical, stone wall along the northeastern boundary of the Orudan Empire, erected for protection against the raiding of the Korgan.
Thermal A general term referring to the portion of Null’s M-SPEC system that captures infrared wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation, or the radiant temperature of objects.

Ukiru \ew-keer-ew\ Teacher and mentor to Kael while he lived at the Monastery.
Wandering Stars A renegade faction of angels (Myndarm) who abandoned their home to inhabit earth and take wives from among the daughters of men.
Western Operations Division (WOD) A division of Null, headquartered in McLean, Virginia, Unites States, responsible for operations in North, Central, and South America.
